Ohio
Whatever you’re looking for, you can probably find it in Ohio. From Lake Erie’s shores to the Ohio River Valley, from the foothills of Appalachia to the Midwestern plains, Ohio is rich in natural resources, urban, suburban, and rural communities, and holds vast cultural wealth. It’s no wonder that Ohioans proudly proclaim that our state is “The Heart of it All!”
Ohio’s cultural landscape is full of creative people, places, and organizations that do the essential work of maintaining vibrant communities. We gather at festivals large and small, in historic theatres and new performing arts and exhibition venues, around artists that enrich our lives and landscapes, and in groups that practice beloved traditions. Though we may talk about it in different ways, Ohioans clearly understand the importance of the arts and creativity in building strong and sustainable communities.
Ohio AIR
AIR Institute’s work in Ohio amplifies the creative forces that are already at play in our state. AIR’s workshops bring artists and entrepreneurs together to share stories, plan projects, and build the networks of support that sustain creative towns, villages, and cities. By focusing its efforts in the Appalachian region of the state, AIR’s work in Ohio fits snuggly in the Ohio Arts Council’s (OAC) strategic plan by leading, engaging, innovating, and investing. AIR and the OAC are working together to improve connectivity within communities and lay the groundwork for building nimble creative economies.
AIR Ohio is launching in Athens County, which is home to thriving artists and pioneering organizations, businesses, and initiatives that use creative placemaking to build stronger communities. With support from the Ohio Arts Council, staff at the Appalachian Center for Economic Networks and Rural Action are coordinating and facilitating AIR’s first workshops in Spring and Summer 2019 at Stuart’s Opera House in Nelsonville. A series of Fall 2019 workshops will take place in Zanesville (Muskingum County) at the Pioneer School and Seilers’ Studio. And then…it’s up to you! Do you live in an Ohio Appalachian county? Are you ready to elevate the value of arts and creativity in your community? Maybe you want to know more about attending Ohio’s AIR workshops. Send us a message or give us a call. We can connect you to resources and assist you in hosting an AIR workshop in your town!
