One Surprising Skill:
I can make an elephant with Playdoh 🙂
My name is Hilda Vaughan and I live in Cowan, Tennessee. I currently work for the Grundy County Department of Education as a grant writer and for the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office at the Grundy County Detention Center (jail) teaching art, soft skills, and high school. I also serve as a board member for the Grundy Area Arts Council. I first began teaching art workshops while working at a retreat center in Sewanee in 2010; I had no art or workshop training but the premise was that everyone is creative in some way so no special expertise was needed. The goal of the workshops was to just enjoy the creative process. This creative freedom gave me the courage to propose art sessions for incarcerated women. The result has been a three-year journey that has grown a nonprofit (Arts Inside) that offers weekly art and creative writing for incarcerated women and men.
