The arts have been an integral part of La Ruchala Amyrrh Murphy’s life since birth. From growing up in a musical household, to visits to the Smithsonian Museums each summer with her grandmother, to creating works of art on her bedroom walls inspired by art programs she watched on PBS. LaRuchala’s creativity was expressed through art, chorus, and theatre throughout childhood. Encouraged by her high school gifted and talented art teacher, La Ruchala decided to further pursue arts education at Winthrop University; earning a Bachelors in Fine Arts and continuing there to receive a Masters in Arts Administration. Through Amyrrh Designs, La Ruchala organizes, teaches, and creates art and arts experiences that are stimulated by emotion, patterns, nature, and imagination. She combines acrylic painting with mixed media elements such as fabric, paper, wire, and found objects.
