Born and raised in Appalachian Ohio, Sam Miller has always known her roots run deep in rural communities. However, she spent her years in college harnessing and building her sense of place among the foothills of Appalachia. After graduating from Ohio University in May 2018 with a degree in journalism and the motivation to use her skills for the greater good, Miller jumped at the opportunity to join Rural Action as an AmeriCorps member in August 2018. She spends her days empowering small communities and serves to connect their businesses with needed resources. Her degree in journalism still comes in handy as she looks to capture the change at the community level to change the national narrative surrounding Appalachia. Along with her experience in the non-profit realm, Sam also has experience with the public and private sector and spent time in the political world.
